About Thunder Ridge

The 70-hectare Thunder Ridge facility will host grassroots motorsport events, car club gatherings, track days, and provide a world-class, affordable venue for the Bay of Plenty, its surrounding regions, and all of New Zealand to enjoy a variety of activities.

The 3.2km sealed circuit will feature eight corners, a 26-meter elevation change, and undulating terrain that mirrors the natural landscape. Additionally, high-speed banked corners designed by experienced racing drivers will be included. The circuit will be equipped with barrier systems on both sides and large run-off areas on corners, ensuring safety. The experience gained from designing Hampton Downs Motorsport Park has allowed us to create a state-of-the-art circuit for TECT Park. It will meet the rigorous international standards for motorsport venues.

The front straight will be home to 24 pit garages, a central control room for officials, CCTV monitoring, an announcer booth, and a timing room. There will be natural viewing platforms for spectators on either side of the pit building.

Additionally, forty-eight garages will be built in four blocks of twelve for subleasing to competitors to store their cars on site. Click here for more details about the onsite garages.

Planning permission has been granted. The project is now finalising a lease from the Western Bay of Plenty Regional Council before work can commence. The circuit will not require any public funding, but there are opportunities to invest and be involved.
